NEWTOWN BOY WINS ON RETURN

Killeen Glebe graduate Newtown Boy (6g Beneficial) made a winning return to the track when taking Wednesday’s Novices’ Chase at Kelso.

Placed in both his bumpers and successful on his hurdle debut last season, the Paul and Clare Rooney-owned bay was making his first start for the Keith Dalgleish Stable. Brian Hughes rode the even-money joint-favourite to make all, picking up the pace from two out and stayed on well on the run-in to win by three and a quarter lengths.

Newtown Boy was a 100,000 purchase by Kevin Ross Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale, where he was sold by Limekiln Stud on behalf of Killeen Glebe. Bred by TP Quinlan, he was pinhooked as a yearling for 40,000 through Mags O’Toole.
