CADELL EASES CLEAR IN NOVICES CHASE
Cadell looks to have a bright future over fences after the Killeen Glebe graduate ran out an impressive winner on his second chase start at Wetherby on Friday.
A promising third on his chasing debut and seasonal return, Lucinda Russell’s charge was well-supported in Friday’s novices’ chase over three miles. The bay made all and went clear from three out, extending his advantage by the final fence. Pushed out on the run-in, he led by 15 lengths on the line, while the well-backed favourite had to settle for runner-up honours.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Michael Scudamore said: “Cadell is a horse we’ve always liked and we’d been looking forward to him stepping up to three miles over fences. He won two point-to-points and this was always going to be his game.
“You just dream that he’ll eventually turn into a Scottish Grand National type, he likes good ground and stays very well. We’re a long way off things like that but they have to be in the back of your mind, you can dream.”
As Scudamore mentioned, Cadell first advertised his jumping talents between the flags, winning both his starts for Ronnie Bartlett. He still carries the colours of Bartlett, for whom Ian Ferguson bought the Mahler gelding for €90,000 from Killeen Glebe at the Goffs Arkle Sale. He was originally sourced as a foal with Mags O’Toole at the Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale.
